About CAC:
CAC is the short form for the Corporate Affairs Commission of Nigeria, This is the body or the organization that is in charge of the registering business names and entities in Nigeria. It was established in 1990 by the Companies and Allied Matters Act (CAMA). It is established to be the regulatory body in charge of the formation, incorporation, registration and management of business and companies in Nigeria. Account Creation:
This is the first step of the whole process, you start by creating an account on the portal from Here. This can be done via your phone, tablet or laptop. Account can be created using your mobile phone number or NIN. Note

Apply For a Reservation Of Business Name:
After creating an account, your next step is to apply for the reservation of your business name. This process involves checking for the availability of the business name. That is, CAC will help to check is your business name is still available or it has been taken by someone else. You will need to reserve two business name just in case one has already been taken by someone else. After checking and the name is found to still be available, CAC will then approve and reserve the name for you for a period of 60 days. This will enable you to decide if you still want to continue with your choosing name or make changes to the said business name.

Filling of Business Name Registration Form And Uploading Of Relevant Documents:
When your business name has been successfully reserved, next you get to fill in your details of your business name you wish to register. This includes the names and addresses of the parties registerying the business. You will also get to upload your required documents for a successful business name registration. CAC requires that you upload some documents such as two recent passport photographs, Voter’s card, International Passport, National Identity card, Driver’s license, Utility bill or Tenancy agreement.

Making of Payment:
After you have successfully filed your business name, you will then be required to make payment. Please note that an electronic certificate of registration and certified extract registration will be issued at the end of the process. It is said that this usually takes between three to five days. Payment fee depends on the type of business; this could be between N20,000 to N100,000.

After you have met the required above, then your business name might be successfully approved. CAC holds the right to either approve or disapprove your applications. If everything is done right, you will surely get approve.
