Do you know that there is a way you can edit and also correct your national identification number bio details? Yes, this is because the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) has made this possible. You can now update and as well modify their National Identification Number (NIN) details right from the comfort of your home.
NIMC recently launched an online Self-Service Modifications portal that allows Nigerians to edit and make changes to their personal details such as name, phone number, date of birth, and address. This can be done right from your smartphone, tablets and laptops without the need of you visiting any of the NIMC offices.
Methods To Modify Your NIN
There are two methods you can modify or make changes to your NIN aside visiting the NIMC offices nearest to you. You can do this either by the use of a USSD code or visiting the online portal from any of the devices such as your smartphone, tablets or laptop. Check out the two methods below.
Use Short Code:
- On your phone, dial this short code Dial *346#**
- Select this option “NIN Modification.”
- Enter your NIN, this should be your 11-digit number
- Next is to pick the details you want to update; that is Name, Date of Birth or Address and then make changes
- Next you will get a confirmation code via SMS; enter this code to complete the process.
- When this is done, you will get aconfirmation that your NIN has been successfully updated.
Note that any modication you make requires a fee and you will be changed.
Use The NIMC Portal:
- Visit the NIMC portal
- And via the dashboard, select the option you wish to modify.
- Make your payment, this is done using the Paystack platform.
- Next is to validate your National Population Commission (NPC) certificate number and then upload this and any other relevant documents.
- Review the informations above and then click on submit
- After submitting, you will get a transaction slip that will be generated for you.
- Lastly is to sit and wait for approval. Once approved, you can printed your updated NIN slip from the dashboard, or wait for it to be sent to your email address.
Documents Needed for NIN Modification:
- For date of birth modification, you need the Digitized NPC Attestation Certificate for those born before 1992. For those born after 1992, you need a Digitized NPC Birth Certificate.
- For name modification, the NIMC portal requires a copy of a sworn court affidavit, a government-issued ID, and a newspaper extract detailing the your name. For a married woman wishing to change her surname, your marriage certificate will be needed.
- For address modification, it is required that you prove a copy of your utility bill, a tenancy agreement and an attestation letter from a community leader
- For phone number modification, you will need a police extract. For those who does’nt know what a police extract is, it is a document done and issued for reports of lost, stolen or missing items.
