Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has launched its contactless passport application system. This was made known via the company’s X (twitter) handle on Wednesday, October 30, 2024. The system is designed to help reduce the stress faced by applicants, when renewing their passport. The system, which is in phases begins with phase one launching in Canada on Friday. The second phase wish includes the United Kingdom, United States, and Italy will launch on November 15. The third phase is expected to include the rest of the world and will go live starting from December 1.
For those who don’t know, the application platform is designed to address the issue of passport renewal only. That is you can only renew your expired passport via the platform. Before now, applicants was needed to visit the NIS designated centres for their biometric data to be captured as well as passport collection. The news system will now address that bottle neck and make the process more stress free.

How to Apply:
- Start by downloading the app from Google Play, App Store, the Windows Store or from the portal platform Here.
- Next is to create a profile using a valid email address, after which you check to see if your passport is eligible for renewal
- Next you need to type in your National Identification Number (NIN) and current passport number for verification.
- After that, enter your bio-data and upload necessary documents, including your NIN slip, birth certificate, and local government certificate.
- When you are done, use your device to take fingerprint biometrics for identity verification.
- Verify that all information is accurate before submission.
- Complete the online payment to finalize your application.
- Submit your application and wait for it to be processed.
- After the approval, the renewed passport will be delivered directly to the address address provided when you where applying.
