Martins Vincent Otse popularly referred to as VeryDarkMan (VDM) has become one of Nigeria’s top celebrity influencer. Born 8 April 1994, Martins aka VeryDarkMan (VDM) shoot to fame, after dragging Jenny’s Glow, a Skin care company for producing harmful and dangerous product which are not NAFDAC approved. VDM who is sometimes referred to VeryBlackMan is a critic, a social media influencer and an online activist.
Until recently, he used to live in a one room apartment in Abuja, but has relocated. This is the story of a man many call the online terror. We will be taking a look at VDM’s rise from one room in Abuja to the celebrity status that he is today.
About VeryDarkMan (VDM):
While much is not known about the young man, a few details obtain about him shows that VeryDarkMan was born Martins Black Vincent. His date of birth is registered as, on 8 April 1996 and he hails from Edo state, in Nigeria. Although currently based in the federal capity territory Abuja, Martins grow up in Edo State, where he spent most of his early life (childnoon). He is said to have attended the University of Lagos, where he pursued a degree in Business Administration.
Rise To Fame:
Martins Vincent Otse aka VeryDarkMan (VDM) has been on the internet for a while but rise to fame after his online dragging of skin care producers. One of such, was the a skin care company called Jenny’s Glow which has offices Lagos, Abuja, Edo, Rivers and as well as Ghana. VeryDarkMan got a report from one of his fans called Amaka Duru who bought and used the company’s product. According to the fan, the product caused bodily harm to her and when she tried contacting the company, she was met with threats.
It was said that Amaka was arrested by Igbinoba Jennifer aka Jenny’s Glow after she shared a post on TikTok revealing the damage done to her face after using a product from the skincare company. After the arrest, Amaka’s sister also went on social media to rain curses on Jennifer and her brand calling for her sister’s release. Her post on social media generated a lot of comments from past users of the brand products who were also affected after buying and using the products. Seeing that Amaka and her family could no longer take the heat, VeryDarkMan took up the case and contacted NAFDAC. After some investigations, Jenny’s Glow Abuja offices was sealed.
VeryDarkMan Vs Jenny’s Glow:
The showdown between VDM and Jenny’s glow stated around August of 2023 after he made a post about the said company and its products. After the NAFDAC sealing Jenny’s Glow Abuja office, Igbinoba Jennifer reported came on Instagram to reveal that her business was not shut down but only put on hold. According to her, some of her products were put on hold pending approval from the government agency.
Just few weeks later, around September 08 2023, VeryDarkMan got a letter revealing he was slammed with a 500 million naira law suit from the Jenny’s Glow. The Edo born indigen went on Tiktok life to share the news and even joked about the lawsuit.
VeryDarkMan On Mohbad:
VeryDarkMan was also very active during the Justice for MohBad saga. While everyone was pointing accusing fingers at Naira Marley and Sam Larry, VDM was insisting on a DNA test. According to him, the police should look into the close relatives of the music star instead of just singling out Naira Marley and Sam Larry. VDM believed that justice can only be achieved if all angles are properly looking at. His opinion caused a rift between him and Nollywood actress Iyabo Ojo.
Oladimeji Aloba aka Mohbad passed on 12 September 2023 at the age of 27. While the official cause of death is still being investigated, VDM have accused the likes of Iyabo Ojo and Omawunmi the wife of Mohbad of knowing the cause of Mohbad demise. Marking the 1 year anniversary of Mohbad passing VDM revealed saying;
“Mohbad did not get justice at the end of the day, the truth is that the main distraction was not DNA, the distraction was Naira Marley and Sam Larry. “They themselves knows what happened to the boy, I’m telling you the truth, all of them know”.
VeryDarkMan Vs Prophet Jeremiah
VeryDarkMan being a vocal and critic about most issues in the country has always been a target for lawsuits. Just few weeks back, the social media personality was hit with 1 billion Naira lawsuits from Prophet Jeremiah Fufeyin aka Warri TB Joshua. This was made known via a trending video shared on VDM social media pages. The lawsuit came after VDM criticizing the prophet about the miracle products he was selling via his church website and social media pages.
It could be recalled that the founder of Christ Mercyland Deliverance Ministry, back in June 2024, launched a series of miracle products and was selling it to his church members. The products include miracle soap, water, perfume and others. VeryDarkMan via his social media platform challenged the prophet about the authenticity of his miracles and the products as well. He threatens to petition the prophet if he does not reveal the ingredients in his miracle products. Soon after VDM visited the NAFDAC office to make the petition, Prophet Jeremiah Fufeyin withdraw the products as well as also dropping the lawsuit.
VeryDarkMan Vs Bobrisky, Falz and The Falanas:
VDM recently shock the internet after releasing an audio evidence that Bobrisky never served his time in prison. The audio revealed that insist of prison, Bobrisky was kept in an apartment close to the prison premises. He also called out The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC for dropping the money laundering change leveled against the cross dresser. VDM has so far gone online to release two audio evidence and has promised to continue if the right thing is not done.
The audio evidence also implicated Falz TheBahdGuy ad his father Femi Falana. It revealed the role played by Falz and his father; for Bobrisky to be kept in an apartment close to the prison premises. Falz and The Falanas in a response threaten a lawsuit if VDM doesn’t issue a public apology, which he later did.
Conclusion:
VeryDarkMan road to fame has been marked by controversy and lawsuit. Whether or not you love the guy, he really doesn’t care. He has become very popular and influential too. A recent report shows how influential he is, when he was able to raise about ₦33 million for his new NGO just in 24 hours. The Edo born indigen is not stopping his vocal approach anytime soon as the activist recently slammed Reno Omokri for visiting Tinubu on Independence Day. He has also had some altercation with the likes of jolly and more. In is word, “Don’t play or you are going to learn and you will learn the hard way”.
